The Spring Statement

Today, Philip Hammond will present his Spring Statement after years of subjecting the people of this country to crippling cuts.
Under the Tories we have seen the biggest rise in the number of children in care for seven years; almost a fifth of specialist women’s refuges have been forced to close and cuts to adult social care since 2010 are set to reach £6.3 billion by March 2018.

Year on year cuts, brought about by this Conservative Government’s infatuation with austerity, have left public services in Hull and the East Riding stretched to breaking point.
Local Authorities across the country are set to lose 79% of the direct funding that they had in 2010 by 2020 according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

The Conservatives want to pretend there is no money available for our public services or public-sector workers and yet, they are still ploughing ahead with billions of pounds’ worth of tax giveaways to big business and the super-rich.

The people of Hull West and Hessle deserve more than this and so I, along with the Labour Party, will be holding the Philip Hammond and Tory Government to account.
