Emma Hardy MP is launching the Reverse Christmas Calendar Appeal for its third year at Hull Foodbank. The appeal, which is asking for people to donate food items and parcels for each day of advent, but in reverse, up to the 15th December.

The Reverse Advent Calendar works differently to a traditional one by using the days in late November/December to put items into a box daily ready to take to a local foodbank in time for Christmas week. This means instead of opening something for advent, people are giving something back to the community each day. Depending on when they begin the reverse calendar will decide on how many items are eventually in the box.

Ms Hardy is working with Hull Foodbank, Anlaby and Hessle Foodbank and HU4 Hub foodbank with more drop off points to be announced to ensure the initiative reaches the widest possible audience and that as many donations as possible are collected for what is forecasted to be a very difficult winter for many people in our area.

Emma Hardy MP said:
“Food poverty continues to worsen across the country and especially in my constituency of Hull West and Hessle.  I’m hearing from some foodbanks in our area that demand has more than doubled just in the past month.

With the current cost-of-living crisis, rising heating bills, rising cost of food and fuel for cars, I know everyone’s budgets are at breaking point, that is why I am hoping this appeal will be able to help out those who are struggling the most in my constituency and hopefully spread a little bit of Christmas joy.”
