Dear friend,
I hope this finds you well.
Broadband Installation
I managed to bring telegraph pole installation temporarily to a halt in Hessle after raising issues around MS3 failing to implement health and safety rules properly with East Riding Council. They forced the company to stop, however it didn’t take them long to comply and begin work again.
I was pleased to meet with Hessle residents in Parliament to speak about a plan of action moving forward and for them to handover a petition to government.
I presented a petition in Parliament with over 360 signatures demanding the government to change the rules which allow the current situation of broadband companies essentially being able to install telegraph poles where they want, when they want. The petition will receive an answer from the government in due course, which I will share.
Small Business Awards
It’s the third year of my Small Business Awards and so many of you nominated fantastic local businesses that this year I decided to put them into categories with an award for the winner of each.
I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of you who voted for your favourite small businesses in our area. Over 1500 nominations and over 2300 votes! The people of Hull West and Hessle have really gone all out this year to support their favourite local businesses.
Small businesses play such a vital role in our local community and I know like many others, small businesses are really feeling the pinch at the moment. The pandemic proved that when it really matters, it’s small local businesses that are there providing the services we need and so it’s really important we support them.
Keep an eye on my social media to find out who has won in each category and remember, Saturday 2nd December is Small Business Saturday so get out there and shop local!
Postcards for Veterans
This year I teamed up with Adelaide Primary School to create postcards for veterans who were unable to attend remembrance services.
Veterans from Hull4Heroes, Hull’s Young Mayor, Amaya and myself went to Adelaide Primary to collect the post cards. The veterans talked a little bit about what they did and where they served and some of the students read out their messages of thanks.
The messages that were read out made everyone in the room a little bit emotional. I was so impressed with all the students with how articulate and understanding their messages were, they were very moving and written with such compassion.
Hull4Heores then handed these out to veterans over remembrance weekend and also to serving personnel as part of their shoebox appeal.
I want to say a huge thank you to all pupils and staff at Adelaide Primary School for getting involved in the project and creating such beautiful postcards. I know it will have meant a lot to all those who received one.
Reverse Advent Calendar Appeal
My Reverse Advent Calendar Appeal is back for it’s third year!
The Reverse Advent Calendar works differently to a traditional one by using the days in late November/ early December to put items into a box daily, ready to take to your local foodbank in time for Christmas week. This means that instead of opening something for yourself for advent, you are giving something back to the community each day.
I am working with Hull Foodbank, HU4 Community Trust and Hessle and Anlaby Foodbank with the hope that we can get as many people involved in the project as possible. It’s forecasted to be a really difficult winter for many people in our area and this will go a long way to helping those in the community who need it most.
I understand at the moment people are having to tighten their purses, so please only donate if and what you can, but if you are able to help then I know there will be so many families grateful for the support.

I’m really pleased this is happening as the need for a flood scheme in Derringham is something I have been talking to Yorkshire Water about for a while now. If you live in the area, make sure you go down there and have your say.
And finally,
As always, please feel free to share this letter with anyone you think might be interested. I will be doing as much as I can to offer assistance and advice over the coming months and represent the constituency in Parliament; please do not hesitate to contact me if you think I can help.
