It is not acceptable that TransPennine Express had downgraded Hull’s vital rail links to a “stopping service”.

This will add an additional 6 stops to journeys between Hull, Leeds and Manchester. TransPennine Express say that the journey time will only be increased by 2 minutes when it will, in fact increase substantially. All this while services on other lines, such as lines from Liverpool to Scarborough and Newcastle, will be dramatically improved!

There is no justification for millions of pounds being spent on new, longer trains running to a much quicker timetable between a town the size of Scarborough, whilst its Hull and the Energy Estuary’s rail services are downgraded to a local stopping service which fails even to connect with Manchester Airport or Liverpool.

I will be working with Diana Johnson, Karl Tuner and the Chamber of Commerce to oppose this.
