New Chair and Deputy Chair Appointed to Lead Boulevard and St Andrews Pride in Place Community Board

The Boulevard and St Andrews Pride in Place programme has taken an important step forward with the appointment of its new Community Board leadership. Local residents Simon Berry and Haitam Amudi have been selected as Chair and Deputy Chair, signalling a fresh chapter in efforts to deliver long‑term investment and positive change across the neighbourhood.

Their appointments come after an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from the community, with 19 residents applying for the role of Chair. This high level of interest highlights the strength of local commitment to helping shape the area’s future and ensuring the £20 million Pride in Place investment is led by the people who live there.

A community-led selection process

Shortlisted candidates were interviewed by a panel comprising Emma Hardy MP, St Andrews and Docklands Councillor Daren Hale, the Bishop of Hull, and a Hull City Council officer. The panel jointly agreed on the appointments of Mr Berry and Mr Amudi, praising the passion and dedication shown by all candidates.

Emma Hardy MP said the next stage will be crucial in establishing a strong board that reflects the diversity and priorities of the local community.

“I want to thank everyone who applied for the role of Chair. It’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm from people who are passionate about making a difference. I’m really looking forward to working alongside Simon, Haitam and local councillors to build a board that truly represents the voices of Boulevard and St Andrews,” she said.

“I can’t wait to spend more time with residents, hearing directly from them about how they want this investment to be used.”

‘A chance to deliver something truly special’

Newly appointed Chair Simon Berry said he was delighted to take on the role and eager to begin working with residents.

“I’m really looking forward to engaging with the community and working together to ensure the funds are used in the best possible way,” he said.

“Over the coming months we will be building a strong board, identifying where investment is needed, and ensuring it benefits everyone. Working with different groups may be challenging at times, but I’m confident that by collaborating and listening we can deliver something truly special for the area over the next ten years.”

Deputy Chair Haitam Amudi also expressed pride in his appointment.

“As someone who lives in the area, I care deeply about our community and the opportunities this investment can bring. I’m looking forward to working with residents, community groups, faith groups and partners to make sure local voices are at the heart of every decision we make.”

Warm welcome from community leaders

Cllr Leanne Fudge welcomed the new leadership, saying:

“It is great news that Simon and Haitam have been appointed. We are eager to see this project delivering for local people.”

The Bishop of Hull, who sat on the appointment panel, added:

“Pride in Place is an important opportunity for local communities to shape investment in their own area. I look forward to working with Simon, Haitam and others across volunteer, community and faith organisations.”

Shaping a once‑in‑a‑generation investment

The new Community Board will play a vital role in setting priorities, championing residents’ voices, and ensuring that this once‑in‑a‑generation investment delivers maximum benefit for the Boulevard and St Andrews community.
