Over 27,000 veterans in our region are set to benefit from a transformational new Veterans’ Strategy – and Emma Hardy MP is backing the plan to make sure Hull West and Haltemprice are front and centre.
Labour has announced a bold commitment to renew the nation’s contract with those who served, and it’s all about giving veterans the support they deserve.
What’s Changing?
- £27 million in funding is now available for local bids to create VALOUR centres, innovative hubs offering wraparound support for veterans.
- These centres could pop up on local high streets and community spaces, making it easier than ever to access help with health, housing, jobs, finance, and wellbeing.
- A new national network of support hubs will link to a VALOUR HQ in the Ministry of Defence, with regional centres and field officers working directly in communities.
More Help Where It’s Needed
- A £12 million fund will tackle veteran homelessness and extend Op FORTITUDE, providing three years of dedicated support for those at risk.
- Labour is investing in world-class NHS services for veterans, ensuring healthcare that truly understands their needs.
- Plus, new initiatives like a clean-energy jobs pilot, extended Nuclear Test veteran medals, and a £75 million LGBT Financial Recognition Scheme show Labour’s commitment to fairness and opportunity for all who served.
Emma Hardy MP said:
“Our transformational new Veterans’ Strategy shows Labour will always stand by those who served. Through innovative hubs, funding to prevent homelessness, and access to world-class NHS support, the 27,811 veterans in Hull and East Yorkshire will finally get the support they deserve. I’ll be backing the VALOUR bid in our area to make sure veterans in our community benefit.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer added:
“Our nation owes a duty to those who have served, and this new Strategy recognises veterans as one of our greatest assets. From better healthcare to housing to jobs – our message to veterans is simple: we are on your side.”
