Launching the HEY Endo Workplace Best Practice Charter

A groundbreaking initiative has been launched to make workplaces more supportive for individuals suffering from endometriosis. Hull-based charity HEY Endo has developed the first-ever workplace charter for endometriosis, providing essential guidance to employers on how to create a more understanding and accommodating work environment.

HEY Endo was founded by women with personal experiences of endometriosis and has grown from an online support group to a registered charity with over 900 members. Ashleigh Hirst, one of the co-founders, has shared her own struggles with the condition in the workplace, including being dismissed from a job due to her symptoms before even receiving a diagnosis.

Recognizing the urgent need for workplace reform, Emma Hardy HEY Endo to Hull and Districts Trades Council, to develop the HEY Endo Workplace Best Practice Charter. This vital document ensures that employees with endometriosis receive the recognition, understanding, and flexibility they need to continue working while managing their condition. The Charter has been signed off by trade unions and is now ready for implementation.

One of the most important aspects of this initiative is that the Charter is completely free of charge. HEY Endo’s co-founders, who all have lived experience of endometriosis, will provide training to employers, ensuring workplaces are better equipped to support affected employees. All training materials have been approved by the charity’s trustees, guaranteeing high-quality and accurate information.

I am proud to support this initiative, which marks a significant step towards workplace equality for those with endometriosis. I encourage businesses and organisations to adopt the HEY Endo Workplace Best Practice Charter and help create a more inclusive and supportive working environment for all.
