This week I met with representatives from the insurance industry to discuss actions needed to secure affordable flood insurance. This included the Build Back Better scheme which offers those whose homes have been damaged by flooding an additional £10,000 to make them more flood resilient.
We know all too well in Hull and East Yorkshire the devastation flooding can cause. In 2007 many people had to leave their home due to flood damage and I know that even once they’d returned home, there was a lot of anxiety about the possibility of it happening again. This scheme aims to alleviate some of that anxiety by making properties as flood resilient as possible.
It was a really positive conversation and I’ll continue to work with all insurance companies so we can protect as many homes from the devastating impact of flooding.
