We’re six months on since our community was devastated by the criminal findings at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors and I know many in the community are still shaken and coming to terms with this awful situation.
My thoughts of course remain always with the family and friends of the victims of these horrendous crime and I am continuing to support those who live in Hull West and Haltemprice.
As your MP, I am doing all I can to try and ensure that horrific crimes like this never happen again. I am pushing forward to introduce regulations to the funeral director profession and I recently met with the new Minister, Alex Davies, to discuss this and hope to make further progress on this in the very near future.
I know Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council are continuing to provide a support line for anyone who has been affected by this. You can contact the support line by calling- 0800 281 1136. There are also ongoing talks with Hull City Council with those directly affected about a permanent memorial place.
During this moment of reflection, I wanted to highlight how amazing our community is. We banded together in the most devastating circumstances. We honoured the victims, supported one another and held each other up in the most vulnerable of times, in a way that people in our area always do. Through the darkness, the people in our community shone a light so for that, thank you.
