Emma Hardy MP launches Christmas Calendar Appeal calling for food donations

Emma Hardy MP has launched today the Reverse Christmas Calendar Appeal at the Beanie Street Foodbank. The appeal, which is asking for people to donate food items and parcels for each day of advent, but in reverse, runs up to the 17th December.

The Reverse Avent Calendar works differently to a traditional one by using the days in late November/December to put 24 items into a box daily ready to take to a local foodbank in time for Christmas week.

Ms Hardy is working alongside Beanie Street Foodbank, Hessle and Anlaby Foodbank and Hull Foodbank, and with local groups Skint Dad and the Hull Food Poverty Alliance in ensuring the widest audience is contacted and the most donations are made available in what is forecast to be a very difficult winter for many working families across the region.

Emma Hardy MP said:

“Food poverty continues to be huge problem across the country and especially in my constituency of Hull West and Hessle.  For this reason, I am encouraging businesses, schools and families to put together a Reverse Advent Calendar food box to take to one of three foodbanks in my area.”

“With the current cost-of-living crisis, rising heating bills, rising cost of food and fuel for cars, I know everyone’s budgets are at breaking point, that is why I am hoping this appeal will be able to help out those who are struggling the most in my constituency and hopefully spread a little bit of Christmas joy.”

Naomi Willis from Skintdad.co.uk added:

“Talking with our readers, we can see every day just how much of a need there is for food banks. We all need to do what we can to fight against food poverty. So many people have lost their income in the last year alone and demand will be higher than usual, but anyone can help their wider community in a very selfless way by getting involved.

If you would like to be a part of this then please can all advent calendar boxes be dropped off at one of the below foodbanks by 17th December.
